My Reaction to France vs Brazil: Where Is Brazil’s Freedom?

After watching France play Brazil during the international break, I kept coming back to one question: where was the freedom I associate with Brazil's best attacking football? This is my reaction to that match and the squad discussion around it, recorded at the time of the video.

What I wanted to see from Brazil

I expected more players willing to express themselves and try something unpredictable. Structure helps a team, but I did not feel Brazil showed enough of the individual spark that can change a tight game. That is my reading of one performance, not a claim that every player or coach thinks about football in the same way.

Neymar came to mind because of his ability on the ball, especially his passing and creativity. In the video I argue that, if available and selected on merit, he offers something distinctive. I wanted Brazil to consider how to use that quality rather than assuming a player has to cover every blade of grass to influence a match.

Other questions from the break

France gave me something to think about defensively, while England's squad choices raised questions about which players could make the final group. I also spoke about Japan, a side whose technical play impressed me when I faced them at youth level. Those observations are snapshots from that international window; squads and form can change quickly.

The thread running through the video is simple: I love watching teams with a clear identity and players confident enough to show their strongest qualities. France against Brazil made me wonder how Brazil could get more of that into its attack.
