Jim Ratcliffe’s Comments and the Responsibility of a Football Owner

In this video I react to Jim Ratcliffe's public comments about immigration and what it means when a prominent football owner speaks on a subject that affects so many people. My view is shaped by football dressing rooms: they bring together people from different countries, backgrounds and communities, and that mix is part of the game's strength.

An owner has the right to express a view. With a large platform also comes a responsibility to think about the people who hear it, including supporters and players connected to the club. I wanted to explain why his comments concerned me and why I think football figures should be careful with broad claims about communities.

This is my reaction to the discussion at the time of recording. I am expressing an opinion about the language and its impact, rather than making a claim about Ratcliffe's motives. If you disagree, I still want the conversation to be specific and respectful.
